Ylläs week program

Top of Ylläs
Join us for a snowmobile safari to the top of the world, (at least in Ylläs), we go round the fell and
up to Finland’s highest restaurant, KAMMI at 718 metres, and at the summit we have coffee before
we head down again. The safari gives you very pleasant driving and a great view.

Northern Light
We experience the magic of the Northern Lights in a quiet natural setting, getting there by
snowmobile in the evening. Hopefully beneath the spectacular Northern Lights, we make a fire and
boil coffee while our guide tells us stories and facts about the aurora as we enjoy the snack.

Ice-fishing
We set off by snowmobile from the safari house and head out to a lake for some ice-fishing. We try
to lure the fish, and only one metre of ice and some luck are between us and the fish. Our guide
helps us with fishing tips, and serves coffee and a snack and perhaps a tall story about fishing.

Family safari
Even if you have never driven a snowmobile we soon have you up and running: our guide helps
you with instructions and driving tips and we start off with easy driving. This tour is suitable for
families with children, since it is neither long nor difficult in any way. We make a stop during the
safari for refreshments which we bring with us.

Cross the border to Sweden
While you’re here why not visit our neighbouring country Sweden? The safari goes over fell and
wetlands and after we cross the border we head up to Pajala village where we have lunch. The
transfer back is by bus. By the way: on Thursdays, we do it the other way around!

Lappish Hell Canyon
The Lappish Hell Canyon of Pakasaivo used to be a sacred place for the Sami people, and it’s
located about 30 km from us and is our destination for this safari. The tour gives you a longer
drive, a good meal, and a spooky feeling.

Lainio Snow Village
The snowcastle in Lainio is as you guessed built from snow, you get to see bedrooms, an ice-bar,
snow sculptures and ice art and pay a visit to the local handicraft shop so you can get some gifts to
take home with you. The safari goes by snowmobile and the driving is around Ylläs fell and across
frozen wetlands and forests, and before we head back we have soup for lunch.

To the top of Kellostapuli
A snowshoe walk through the forest and a small canyon up to Kellostapuli alpine top. Beautiful
nature and scenery is guaranteed. We make a stop along the way to boil coffee over open fire.
This is snowshoe hiking at its best.

Snowshoeing
An enjoyable snowshoe walking tour in which we are looking for the tracks of birds and animals,
and maybe we come across some wild animals. We stop for coffee during our expedition and of
course we get to hear something from our guide about flora and fauna.

Northern Lights snowshoeing
In the evening we walk into the forest with only the electric torch and the moon to light our way.
Hopefully we get to see the Northern Lights while we sit around the open fire and listen to stories
about the aurora from our guide, enjoying a hot drink and bun.

Cross-Country ski-school
In our ski school we teach you the basics of cross-country skiing. Ylläs has about 300 km of crosscountry
skiing tracks and along some of the tracks there are restaurants for you to stop and relax
at, with something to drink or a hot meal. So get ready to rent a pair of skis after this lesson.

Alaskan Husky Drive
The silence of dog sledding is an experience in itself. All you can hear is the sled runners on the
snow and the eager panting of the dogs as they tow you into the forest, giving you an experience
like no other. This tour can be combined with either snowmobiling to the dog farm or by coach. A
coffee break is included in the dog sledding tour, as well as information about dog-handling and
sled-dogs. Husky sleigh driver must be 18 years old.

Half Day Husky Adventure
Enjoy the magnificent Arctic Nature by exploring it with Huskies! After the first excitement of the
dog, we start heading into the silence of the wilderness. Half way through the trip we will have a
short break to warm us up a bit and drink a hot cup of tea or coffee. If you are sharing a Husky
team, now you have time to switch places! Both, mushing and sitting in the sleigh are an
experience worth making!

Hannu’s Reindeer Farm
We set off by snowmobile to Hannu’s Reindeer Farm, and meet a genuine reindeer herder, ride a
reindeer sleigh and learn about reindeer herding. We drink coffee in a lávvu tepee.
