X-Border Safari: Ylläs - Riksgränsen

Short Description: Experience the vast wilderness of northern Finland, Sweden
and Norway on one of our various X-Border Safaris.
Start of this Program: Sunday

Day 1 We will start our snowmobile safari in Ylläs, where we pick
you up at your Hotel and go to the Safari house. There we
will be equipped with warm driving gear and our guide gives
us a full introduction of the snowmobiles, driving techniques
and the safety information. Then we are ready to take off!
With the snowmobiles we will head to the west towards
Sweden. Our first destination is the River Muonio and the
village of Kolari, which are situated on the border of Finland
and Sweden. At the lunch place we will enjoy an outdoor
meal beside open fire. Then we leave Finland behind and let
the snowmobiles take us over snow-covered wetlands and
frozen lakes.
When we arrive to the forest village of Kangos, we park our
snowmobiles and make ourselves at home in the old, cosy
inn. It is nice to relax on the warmth from the fireplace and
drink a cup of coffee or tea, while the wooden heated sauna
is warming up. In the evening we will enjoy a delicious
dinner made from local ingredients and have a little chat
about the day and the continuation of the safari.

Day 2 After well-slept night, we enjoy the delicacies of Swedish
breakfast buffet. Then we continue our adventure and start
to drive to our next destination, to the world famous
ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi. On the way there, we will stop by
in the village of Vittangi and have lunch at the local
restaurant. After lunch the journey continues further north,
following the Tornio River.
Did you know the fact, that ice of the River Tornio is used as
a building material of the Icehotel and of all the sculptures
there? Tornio River’s ice is also widely used in ice-art all over
the world.
When we arrive to the Icehotel, our guide is waiting for us to
show the hotel and tell about its details and the building
technique. Afterwards we have an opportunity to go around
by ourselves and look closely at the icy hotel rooms and
suites – not to forget the amazing ICEBAR!
From the Icehotel we have a transfer to Kiruna where we will
check in the hotel. Sauna is already heated and it is waiting
for us. Tasty dinner is served at a local restaurant.

Day 3 The third day of our safari starts again with filling breakfast
buffet. Today our destination is the high mountain area west
of Kiruna, where the highest peak of Sweden, Kebnekaise
(2111 m) is situated. We follow ice-covered lakes and rivers
and on the way we will have an outdoor lunch.
After snowmobiling we check in a spa hotel, in Riksgränsen.
At the hotel heated sauna is waiting for us and it’s also
possible to have a relaxing massage. After sauna we will eat
dinner at the Restaurant Lapplandia.

Day 4 After breakfast we will start to get ready for our transfer to
the airport Kiruna / Pajala / Kittilä.
